12 Miler

Today I decided to run 12 miles on a nice day.

Friday, November 27, 2009

The YMCA is soooo unorganized!

The results were messed up, so the Y hasn't posted them yet. They had names matched up with wrong bib numbers and wrong times. Every year they get it wrong. I do know that my time was 20:14. I almost broke the 20 minute mark. I finished 40 out of about 500 people, 5th in my age group.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Turkey Day Run 09

Tomorrow I will see how close I can get to breaking the 20 minute mark.

Falling Leaves 2009 (14K)

Since the marathon is 1 week away I took it easy today. I stayed back with Dave and did not run too hard. I kept up with him for about 7 miles then I took off and ran hard for the last mile. I thought my time would be slow, however I beat my time last year by a couple of minutes. My time was 1:05:37,which is a pace of 7:33. I finished 86 out of 353. I was 14 out of 33 for my age.

Thursday, September 24, 2009

A nice easy 3!

I ran a smooth three miles tonight after work. I felt no ill effects from the long run. Actually, I felt better.

Sunday, September 20, 2009

I messed up!

Instead of the 15 miles, we did 24 today. I took a wrong turn and ended up in Adams Center. What a long ass run. However , we walked a bit towards the end. I don't feel that bad.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

5.5 miler

Today I ran after school. I ran up to IHC and did part of the Turkey Day Run loop. This weekend I will run 14 miles for my long run. Next Sunday I am running Falling Leaves in Utica. However, I am not sure how to run it. It is a 14K race with a HUGE hill. Since Wineglass is one weeks after Falling Leaves, I don't know if I should race it or run it at marathon pace. I will think about it.

20 MIler

Eric and I ran a 20 miler today. Eric took a crap in the bushes. ...and yes he used leaves. I started out OK, but was really sore towards the end. I think I ran too fast yesterday. I was wondering if It would be dumb to run the Rochester Marathon this weekend since I ran 20 today?

4 Mile Road Race

The Skaneateles Road Race was excellent this year. It started in town, ran through the business section, headed through a new upscale housing development,in the woods along a nature trail, and finished at the fairgrounds. There were some pretty tough hills. The nature trail, which was shaded, was the best part. My finish time was 26.47. That averages out to a 6:42 mile. I finished 43 out of 214, 5th in my age group.

Friday, September 4, 2009

6.5 Miler

Sunday, August 30, 2009

22 Miler

I started out at about 10:30 this morning. It was very comfortable outside but threatened rain. The sun did come out on occasion, but not for long. I felt good most of the time. However towards the end my body felt the long haul. I was originally going for 20, but felt good enough to add the two miles. About two minutes after I walked in the door it pored.

Run to the beach

Today at 7:30 Eric and I set out for the journey for Westcotts. We knew it was supposed to be in the upper 80"s so we were a little worried. We ran 16.5 miles in extremely hot conditions. When we were overheating we would stop in the shade and walk for a minute. We did this about three times towards the end. Eric felt worse so I would run ahead an loop behind him and run to him when he walked. I felt pretty good.

3 Miles

Yesterday I ran light just to get some miles in for the week. It was hot and I am running 16 or 17 today, so I only ran 3. Eric and I are running to the beach today.

Lyme Triathlon

On an extremely rainy day we set out to defend our title. We took first place again, but by a mere 23 seconds. Dave and Clarence Beat last years time by about a minute, while Scott was only about 30 seconds off his time last year. I beat my time by about a minute and a half. My total run time for 4 miles was 26:55. That a pace of 6:43. And of course after the race the weather soon cleared up.

Friday, July 31, 2009

My leg was tight, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was a little difficult not knowing how hard to push it. I started out very easy, and picked up the pace as I went on. I would back off when I felt tightness. Towards the end I did pick it up a little. My time of 1:13:41 was pretty good for not that much running in the last 5 weeks.

Great day for a run, a little chilly , but nice! I finished 34th overall, 3rd in my age group. At first they had me listed as 71 years old. I would have finished 1st in my age group, but I had to speak up. The YMCA is so unorganized. My overall time was 35:35, a 7:07 pace.....I missed my goal.

Today was my day off and I assume Friday will be as well. At 3:00 in the morning I awoke violently with a leg cramp. I almost called in sick today because I couldn't walk. I feel somewhat better , but had to stretch all day. It is still quite sore and am a little frustrated, since I have a 4 mile race on Saturday. I hope I can run in it.

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

5 miles(Brooks)

Another cold night to run outside. I felt better but not 100%. Dave, Eric SW., and I ran in the school tonight. We ran for 48 minutes on the nuts. And NO Bowden...I really ran on my shoes! I would be sore if I ran on those. It was more like 5.5, but I call it 5 miles.

Monday, March 2, 2009

4 miler(Brooks)

I think I had the FLU over the weekend. I statred feeling sick on Friday & also struggled a little during Saturday's run. I spent all day Sunday in bed. I had the flu shot and still felt a little sick. Maybe i would have been really sick if I didn't get the shot. So today I only ran 4 miles. I felt better, but I couldn't run intervals. When I sprinted I felt dizzy. Oh well back to the grind tomorrow.

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

7 Miles

Dave and I ran a easy paced 7 mile loop past IHC to Gillette Road and back to the high school. We actually slowed a bit to check out some scenery along the way. We finished it in 59 minutes and a few seconds. About an 8 minute and 44 sec mile. I am trying to gauge what a 9 minute mile feels like. My plan is to hopefully run VT close to that.

Again Dave and I ran in the school. And again we finished up in the gym on the treadmill. This time I concentrated on raising the treadmill track for most of the run. Eric S. has not run with us in a week. I hope he is getting in the miles.

3 Miler with Brooks

The weather has been bad and the roads are pretty crappy. Dave and I didn't want to brave the elements so we ran the treadmill at Watertown High. I did 3 miles for a pace of 7:37 a mile. I didn't raise the treadmill so it was a flat 3 miles. Shins are a tiny tiny bit sore, so I may take the weekend to rest. I may ride the bike one day. Next week my long run will be 12 miles if the weather permits.

11 miler

Today I ran in snowy, icy, very windy weather. It was tough, but I did it. I ran the hilly park route plus a mile in the cemetery. I also ran my neighborhood for the remaining distance. I forgot my watch, so i guessed on time from my kitchen clock. Give or take a few seconds it was around a 9 minute pace. I ran early in the day because we have a lake effect warning this afternoon.

6 miler

Eric, Dave and I ran the usual 6.2 miler. We ran from the high school, to IHC, up to woodside Dr. , around the side streets and back to the high school. It was slow since the traffic kept us at bay. We had to stop at some intersections. We finished it in about 54 and a few seconds. Eric is getting a little stronger.

9 Miler

Today I ran a comfortable 9 miles. I tried to to pace myself around a 9 minute mile. I finished it in 1 hr and 19 minutes and a few seconds. So, it was just under a 9 minute pace. I have to learn to control my pace. Today's run was very hilly. The weather was nice!

5 Rainy Miles

Eric and Dave couldn't make it, so i ran it alone. It was a light mist with much standing water. It was also quite warm out, so I was not going to pass up the run outside. I am trying to rack up the miles. I am also losing some pounds. I have gone from 170, at x-mas, to 163 as of today.

6 miler

Dave, Eric, and myself ran a 6 mile loop around the high school neighborhood. Dave was beat, since he cross counrty skied 6 miles earlier. He ran about 3.5 miles. Eric ran about 4.5, while I did the full 6.

5 miles OUTSIDE

Dave and I ran outside tonight. We started from the high school , ran past the park, made it to Ohio School and finished back at the high school. Shins barked a little, but not too bad. they are not 100% yet. I am looking forward to a long run tomorrow.

5 Miles again

Today we ran for 43 minutes and 31 seconds. We ran some stairs, sprinted a few halls, and picked up the pace on the bridge to case. We figured that we ran about an eight minute pace. It was way too cold to run outside. Maybe on Friday we can venture out.

5 with stairs

Dave and I ran about 5 miles inside today. The roads were a little slick so we played it safe. We have been picking up the pace, as well as working our legs. We climbed many stairs, especially at Case. My calf muscles are exhausted. They have been cramping up a bit. I have noticed that it getting darker later. The days are getting longer.

Yesterday I ran around my development. I finished it up with a run around the cemetery . It was a nice run with a little bit of snow in the cemetery. Shins just a tiny bit sore last night and today. I will run again tomorrow.

4 miler

We have had about a foot of lake effect snow in the past 24 hours. So back inside we go. Dave and I ran 4 miles in the high school today. The bridge to the middle school was closed so we were limited to running in one building. We did some intervals in the halls plus ran some stairs. I will either cross train or run lightly tomorrow.

3 yesterday and 6 1/2 today

Last night I ventured outside and ran 3 miles around our school campus. The roads were a little snow covered, but they were clear. I felt fine today and decided to run again. Dave and I ran inside because of the snow storm. School closed at 12:30, but we ran 6 1/2 miles inside . We again ran between the middle school and the high school.

Monday, January 26, 2009

5 miler

Dave and I picked up the pace a little more today. We started at the high school and took the bridge over to the middle school to run the halls. Running from school to school is a little more enjoyable than one school. I will slowly get back to where I was before I was injured. I will cross train tomorrow.

6 miles

I ran the halls and at school today. I also ran some stairs to work on strengthening my legs. Part of my workout today was speed as well. I sprinted a hall and jogged back on the return. Stretched and iced after working out.

Friday, January 23, 2009

Another run in the halls

Dave and I ran another 4 miles. Shins are a little sore but I think they are getting better. We even picked up the tempo and sprinted a few times. I am not going to over do it though. I will run about a 7 miler on the weekend if the weather holds up. We have a lake effect snow watch for Sat. and Sun. Bowden is going to kick my butt in VT!

Rest

Today I will rest my legs. Yesterday we did the 4 miles inside school. We ran the halls and climbed a few stairs. My legs really got a work out from the stairs. However, my shin splints hardly hurt at all. When I got home I iced them for a bout 20 min a leg. They hurt very little today. Now I don't know if they were sore from running in the snow or my shoes, or both! Actually, I don't care....they feel fine.

4 miler

Dave and I ran 4 miles tonight. We took it nice and easy. Used my new shoes and with some luck I wont need to take a week off.

Monday, January 19, 2009

New Shoes

Just purchased Saucony Roadsters to see if they help my shin splints. I'll ride the bike again tonight but run either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Sunday, January 18, 2009

The Bike

I rode 40 minutes on the bike followed by some strength and stretching exercises. My shins are a little sore.... but better. I have narrowed it down to either running in the snow or my new shoes. My new shoes arrived the same time that the heavy snow did.

Friday, January 16, 2009

Rest

I am going to take a couple of days off to get get my shins back. I will ride the BORING bike instead.

Wednesday's run in the school

Dave and I ran in the halls at the high school. We ran for a total of 30 min. and then headed to the gym to work out. We again planned on another run tonight, but for 60 minutes. That never materialized because my shin splints SUCK! IceIceIceIceIce

5 miles through Thompson Park

Dave and I finished a sluggish slippery 5 Miles. Most of the sidewalks were shoveled, or at least padded down. Weather was nice ...in the 20's.

Saturday, January 10, 2009

9 Miler

Dave's friend's house caught on fire. He was helping him so I ran by myself today. I ran 9 miles on city streets. I had to alternate from the streets to the sidewalks to avoid traffic. I wish people would SHOVEL their side walks! However, it was a nice run.

Gym Work Today

Worked out with weights for upper and lower body. Spoke to a runner about my shin splits. He advised me that I am heel striking and I should run with more of my foot flat to the ground allowing my toes to hit more. I feel (and look) funny, but I'll give it a shot.

Monday, January 5, 2009

Easy Run

Dave and I ran a nice and easy 3 1/2 miles. My shin splints are acting up, but I will run through it. A friend at work also signed up for the marathon. So far it's Bowden, Eric, Myself, and hopefully my brother-in-law Eric. XT tomorrow.
